Responsible Gambling Awareness Week, Vernon BC

Gambling is a legal, recreational activity in our community that can be addictive for some individuals. As a community we need to understand the risks and how to gamble responsibly.

From January 12-18, 2013, the City of Vernon will once again host Responsible Gambling Awareness Week. The goals are to raise awareness in Vernon of responsible gambling practices, and to provide information on the services available to support gamblers and their families.

What's happening around town:

Saturday January 12, 2013	8am - 11am	Drop by the Schubert Centre for a $2 pancake breakfast. At 9am, hear from civic and provincial leaders during this launch of Responsible Gambling Awareness Week.
Saturday January 12, 2013	6pm - 10pm	Visit the Myth-Busting Kiosk at the Wesbild Centre for the Vernon Vipers Hockey Game. Prizes and giveaways just for playing the Marble Bag Challenge and the Wheel of Missed Fortune!
Sunday January 13, 2013	11am - 5pm	Visit the Myth-Busting Kiosk at the Village Green Mall to learn about the real odds of gambling. Take the Marble Bag Challenge and spin the Wheel of Missed Fortune. Prizes and giveaways just for playing.
Monday January 14, 2013	9am - 12noon	Join us for an Open House at the First Nations Employment Centre (2902 29th Avenue). Take the Marble Bag Challenge and spin the Wheel of Missed Fortune at the Myth-Busting Kiosk. Prizes and refreshments!
Tuesday January 15, 2013	9am - 2pm	Visit the Myth-Busting Kiosk at Okanagan College Vernon Campus to learn about the real odds of gambling. Take the Marble Bag Challenge and spin the Wheel of Missed Fortune. Prizes and giveaways just for playing!
Wednesday January 16, 2013	12:30pm - 3pm	Attend the Workshop on Responsible Gambling: Awareness & Prevention at the Best Western Vernon Lodge. Click here for details. Registration deadline is January 11th.
Thursday January 17, 2013	11:30am - 1pm	Rotary members presentation at the Kalamalka Rotary Club luncheon meeting by Dwayne Nittel, Prevention Specialist for BC Responsible and Program Gambling Program.
Friday January 18, 2013	11am - 3pm	Visit the Myth-Busting Kiosk at the Okanagan Regional Library. Take the Marble Bag Challenge and spin the Wheel of Missed Fortune at the Myth-Busting Kiosk. Prizes and giveaways just for playing!
